Kapow adds IDE to Web data integrator

Kapow Technologies will add next week a development environment to its Kapow Web Data Server for Web data access and enterprise integration.

Version 7.2 of Kapow Web Data Server, available Monday, features Design Studio, an IDE for developing and deploying automated processes, or what Kapow calls “robots.” Kapow functions are combined into a single point-and-click IDE. Design Studio replaces the previous tool, called Robomaker, and adds support for native XML, FTP, and Flash.

Apple announces U.K. iPad prices, more countries

Have you been waiting eagerly for the iPad to be available outside the U.S.? If so, then today is your day: Apple announced on Friday that it will make the iPad available in nine more countries this summer, as well as dishing on the prices for pre-ordering in the U.K.

Despite the delay in international shipments, on May 28, the iPad will wing its way to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. Customers in those countries will be able to pre-order all six iPad models from Apple beginning this coming Monday, May 10. China state news agency Web site hit with malware

A section of the Web site for China’s state-run Xinhua news agency was found to be distributing malware last month, according to a Google malware scanning service that is still labeling the site as potentially harmful.

The “news center” section of the Xinhua’s Web site, which displays a feed of the agency’s stories, was found to have one scripting exploit and one Trojan on it during a scan, according to a Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page.

Nintendo profits fall for first time in six years

Nintendo saw profits fall for the first time in six years in the 12 months to March as lower demand for its Wii and DS devices, a lack of blockbuster games and the strong Japanese yen all put pressure on its business.

The Kyoto-based company said net profit in the period from April 2009 to March 2010 was ¥228.6 billion (US$2.5 billion), a drop of 18 percent year on year. Net sales were ¥1.4 trillion, a drop of 22 percent.

Google revamps search results pages

Google will begin rolling out design changes to its search results pages on Wednesday, including permanently opening a panel on the left-hand column that contains result-refinement controls.

That panel, introduced about a year ago, has been until now closed by default, and users have had to click on the “Show Options” link below the search box to open it up.

US Treasury Web sites hacked, serving malware

Three Web sites belonging to the U.S. Department of the Treasury have been hacked to attack visitors with malicious software, security vendor AVG says.

AVG researcher Roger Thompson discovered the issue Monday on three Web domains associated with the home page of the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. As of late Monday, all three Web sites were still actively serving malicious software and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Web site should be avoided until it’s clear that they’ve been cleaned up, Thompson said in an interview via instant message.

Report: Sony to report first profit in 2 years

Sony is expected to next week report its first full-year operating profit in 2 years, according to a report in Saturday’s Nikkei newspaper.

The newspaper said strong sales of flat-panel TVs in China and Japan and cost cutting throughout its operations were largely to thank for the operating profit. It didn’t cite a source for the report or detail the size of the operating profit expected.
